Music and the Zoo

Picture of the Week, so cute
One monday we met two mom friends and their babies at Java Mama in St. Albert. Its a coffee shop with play areas for kids of different ages. Sophia's friend Payton came with us which is really cute because they are starting to recognize each other and smile.
On Tuesday we went to our first music class at Auntie Nicole's music studio. Payton is also registered in the class which is awesome to do stuff with another couple. Sophia loved the class. She was cranky in the morning and on the drive to the class but as soon as we started singing she was so focused on the music and what was going on that she didn't fuss at all...until we got in the truck to leave. She got her first music cd and music book so we can learn the songs. Sophia loves the songs that have actions. She also liked the toy drum and the sticks.
On Wednesday we met a teacher friend of mine for lunch. Sophia did very well with the boring grown up talk.
Thursday was Sophias 6 month birth anniversary. I took basket pics which she is so use to now you can almost see her roll her eyes every time I get out the basket :) I will add one pic to the post Basket Pics but the rest I will post because I got some really cute moments with her and Sidney who always likes to get in the pictures with her.
On Thursday Sophia started fighting a cold :( She is all stuffed up and a little grouchier than usual. She isn't sleeping well and she doesn't seem to like food right now, probably because her nose is plugged and she can't taste anything. So we are laying low for a while to let her fight it off.
Saturday we went to Zoofest which is a fundraiser at the zoo. Jason and I go every year and had fun taking Sophia and Grandma Yvonne this year. Sophia is very much a people watcher and it became very obvious at the zoo. She had no interest in the big elephant (Lucy) who walked past her a few times but instead was staring at Lucy's handlers. She loves being outside and looking at everything and hates sitting in the house right now. She is working on sitting on her own and starting to get her knees under herself while on her tummy.
enjoy the pics from the week and don't forget to check out the Basket Pics post.

I was taking too long to get food in her mouth so she is taking over feeding herself.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Sophia had a great week of eating new foods like sweet potatoes, which she loved, and sleeping through the night. We think with all the eating she is doing she must be going through another growth spurt. She has slept so well this week we just hope it continues. Although I do miss her by morning. I know that sounds crazy but she just lights up when she sees me come into her room and I look forward to it....even at 1:00am. She is now choosing to sleep on her tummy. If we put her in her crib on her back she will quickly roll to sleep on her side or roll right on to her tummy to sleep.

On Saturday we went to cousin Robbie's Birthday party. She got to see her Papa who she just loves to sit with. He must be very warm, calm and comfortable. :) She gave him his card and then proceeded to chew on it so the corner was all soft and wet. I guess thats her idea of a kiss. :) She got lots of love and hugs from her cousin Iris. There was a jumping castle there too but of course she was way too small to go in. She was fine being held by Nana but she started to cry when she saw me in the castle on the other side of the netting. I think it freaked her out a little so I had to get out to reassure her I was fine. Great Party!!

Well of course this week we were getting ready for Father's Day by signing and mailing off her cards for all her grandpa's. We visited Grandpa Brian on Thursday which was awesome. And we had to organize some pictures into a photo album for daddy so he has something to she people at work who ask about her all the time. We had professional pictures take a few weeks ago as a surprise for Father's Day. Its hard for us to keep secrets from Jason...especially me who slipped and mentioned the photo shoot while we were discussing marketing strategies for businesses. I had to tell him we got pics done after he looked at me very confused and said "what photo shoot?" but he had to wait until today to see them. We put the pictures in a slide show for him to watch this morning.
We went for breakfast and then to Cabella's which is what Jason chose to do on his day. Sophia just stared at all the animals and even sat on a toy moose and loved it. After a good nap we went for a nice long walk with Sidney and went to a park for a drink before heading home for another nap (lots of fresh air tires Sophia out).
At the party with Uncle Adam and cousin Marek

With Uncle Aaron who she just loves

With Iris and Papa..notice how Sophia is eating the card :)

So happy in the park.
"Check out my new hat"

"Mama get out of the shot."

"That's better"

So what I have learned about Sophia this week is if you want her to smile in pictures you have to have daddy standing behind the camera. She smiles at him no matter what is happening.

Have a great week everyone. And Happy Father's Day to all those dads who take a few minutes to read Sophia's blog. We love and appreciate you.

Lots of growing

Well after getting a lot of grief for not posting last week, I thought I better get on it for this week.

On May 27th Sophia ate brown rice cereal for the first time and loved it. Since then she has tried apple  sauce (loved it), banana (hated it) and avocado (loved it). We have been watching for allergic reactions but haven't noticed any. These foods are all very low allergy foods and are recommended to be the first things to try babies on because of it. Her eczema gets better one day then worse the next. So her doctor is sending us to an allergist to see what it could be.

On May 29th Sophia rolled from her front to her back yay!!! She really didn't seems to care about it but I freaked out of course :)
May 30 we visited Great Grandma Grace and cousins.
June 1st Grandma Yvonne and I took Sophia to her first garage sale.We bought her some great clothes and toys. Also on this day she rolled from her back to her front. Now she rolls all over her crib and is never in the same position we leave her in.

June 3rd we had a BBQ at Nana and Papas acreage with all of the cousins and aunts and uncles. Beautiful Day. The funniest thing about this day was when Sophia and Marek were on the floor and Sophia grabbed Mareks hand...cute yes...but then she pulled on his arm to help her roll over. She had both her legs heaved over him and pulled his arm for leverage. So cute but very funny.

On Monday we went for a nice walk with cousin Marek and Auntie Shannon. We have to get these walks in while the sun is shining. Everyday we hope its not raining at lease in the morning so we can walk. Sophia loves walking (most of the time) and the fresh air helps her to sleep really well.

On Tuesday we gave her bananas for the first time...it was like I gave her a lemon. She made many horrible faces and spit it out. We tried it again the next day and she wasn't pleased. We will try again next month to see if her opinion has changed.

Wednesday she had a doctor appointment. She is now 13.9 lbs and 27 inches tall. This is a big deal because when she reaches 29 inches we have to move her to a car seat. So maybe in a couple months we will have to get rid of the bucket seat :(

Friday we visited Auntie Cheryl (who we haven't seen since January) wow time goes so fast.
Sunday (today) we went out to Nana and Papas to visit Auntie Dawn (who we haven't seen since Christmas).

Things I have noticed lately about Sophia- If we go to visit people or people come over, she likes to just be held by one of us and watch people for a few minutes until she is comfortable. Then she is fine being passed around (for the most part). She is loved so much that everyone just wants to grab her right away and she hates that. She can be very difficult to calm down if she is forced to sit with them at this point. So we have been trying letting her observe first for a few minutes and it has worked much better. if there is a large crowd or it is noisy it takes longer for her to get comfortable. I have tried to just let her cry with people but it never gets better only worse. Every baby is different and I have seen some who settle right away when you give them a toy but not Sophia. I love it when people accept this and give her space for a few minutes so she can get her surroundings figured out. She tends to give out lots of smiles and giggles after that. I guess its like when kids are shy and hide behind their moms for the first few minutes then you cant keep them quiet after they are comfortable.

This week we are shopping for a gift for cousin Robbie's birthday party on Saturday and for Fathers Day on Sunday. Have a great week everyone.

Enjoy the pics from the last two weeks.

Sidney check to see if she is ok every time we come home.
